Recommendation
We recommend use of the shipped characteristics, particularly in the cable industry. You can, however, define your own characteristics.
Characteristics that are generally used only in the cable industry are marked by an X in the
Cable industry
column. All other industry sectors can also use the shipped characteristics.
You should copy the shipped characteristics into your own target clients. Information on copying characteristics is provided in Customizing of
Logistics - General
at
.
Once you have copied the characteristics, you assign them (or your own characteristics) a business meaning in Customizing of
Logistics - General
at
; e.g. characteristic SAP_MILLCA_FACTOR with abbreviation 200 contains the factor.
You must assign the characteristics to a corresponding abbreviation because they are queried on the basis of a three-digit abbreviation in the
SAP for Mill Products
programs. Each abbreviation stands for one characteristic.
Caution
The characteristic assigned to abbreviation 202 may be used only for length-based materials. Otherwise, all length-based checks and functions are also active for materials that are not length-based.
The following namespaces are available for the characteristics shipped by SAP:
Characteristics (ATNAM) |
Internal characteristic (ATINN) |
---|---|
SAP_MILLCA_... |
9999999200-9999999399 |
Note
If you want to develop your own programs, you can also query the ATINN numbers directly.
The following two characteristics contain individual lengthinformation:
SAP_MILLCA_LENGTH_SUB
This characteristic is defined with the unit of measure
LM=M/ST
and is therefore suitable as a batch-specific conversion characteristic for
single-unit batches
with the base unit of measure
M
. It is used only in the batch class.
SAP_MILLCA_LENGTH
This is the characteristic relevant for SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO); it has no direct reference to the unit of measure. It is used in variant and batch classes.
If the base unit of measure
M
is used, the same value appears in the batch class in both characteristics.
If you want to enter different materials with different base units of measure in the system, you must create a new single-unit batch characteristic with reference to the base unit of measure for each base unit of measure. You must define a separate characteristic for each base unit of measure due to the
single-unit batch
function.
Example
A customer-specific characteristic for the individual length is also included in a batch class such as SAP_MILLCA. This is defined as a single-unit batch characteristic with a different single-unit batch unit of measure:
SAP_MILLCA_LENGTH_SUB with base unit of measure =
M
and single-unit batch unit of measure =
LM
KUNDENMERKMAL_MILLCA_LENGTH_FT with base unit of measure =
FT
and single-unit batch unit of measure =
LFT
Each of these characteristics has its own unit of measure:
LM
= meters per unit – this unit is assigned to the characteristic.
LFT
= feet per unit – you must define this unit yourself in Customizing of
General Settings
.
The unit is assigned to the relevant characteristic.
SAP ships the two characteristics SAP_MILLCA_LENGTH and SAP_MILLCA_LENGTH_SUB. If you want to use other units of measure, you must define them yourself.
If you want to create your own characteristics and enter object dependencies for them, the name of the characteristic must not include a hyphen because hyphens cannot be processed in object dependencies.
The characteristic group
SAP_MILLCA
is shipped with the standard system.
The factor or the number of units is used as an entry aid in sales orders, purchase orders, and production orders The individual length is multiplied by the factor in object dependencies in order to obtain the total quantity. You should not use this characteristic in batch classes because it contains a quantity value.
This characteristic is used for materials that are defined with base unit of measure
M
and are to be inventory-managed as single-unit batches. The factor for converting between the base unit of measure (
M
) and the unit of measure for the unit itself (
ST
) is stored in this characteristic. The conversion factor corresponds to the individual length.
This characteristic contains the individual length but has no direct reference to the unit of measure. It is used in class types
023
and
300
. If you are working with SAP APO, this characteristic is transferred via the interface.
This is an auxiliary characteristic which contains the result of multiplying the individual length by the factor. Multiplication is performed by means of object dependencies. You should not use this characteristic in batch classes because it contains a quantity value.
These characteristics let you define plus and minus tolerances.
Both characteristics are used exclusively in reel determination .
This characteristic corresponds to the reel categoryand is generally used in the cable industry only.
This characteristic is used to enter a packaging material. In the cable industry it corresponds to the reel type.
This characteristic lets you enter the batch number of the packaging material.
SAP_MILLCA_C_LAGGING, SAP_MILLCA_C_PACKAGING
The laggingand additional packagingindicators are generally used in the cable industry only and are entered manually in sales orders. They determine the type of lagging and additional packaging.
These auxiliary characteristics are required for the reel calculationfor technical reasons.
