 Creating Process Batches

Use

There are a number of ways of creating process batches:

  • With reference to an input batch

  • With reference to an order item

  • Without reference

Depending on which method you choose, you can copy characteristic values from the input batch or the order item to the process batch.

Create with reference to an input batch

You create a process batch with reference to an input batch when you want to copy the classification of the input batch (component batch) to the process batch. You may want to do this, for example, if you want to map the components of the production order as process batches.

The system uses the batch class of the header material of the production order or the original batch reference material as the class for the process batch. In addition, the system copies the values of the characteristics that have the same name in the class of the input batch and the class of the process batch.

Note Note

Before you can create a process batch with reference to an input batch, you must assign the relevant input batch to the component in question.

End of the note.

Proceed as follows to create a process batch with reference to an input batch:

  1. In the Goods Issue area, select the component of the input batch for which you want to create a process batch.

  2. Choose the pushbutton PB .

The system takes you to the characteristic valuation screen. The system has copied the characteristics of the same name from the input batch to the process batch.

Create with reference to an order item

You create a process batch with reference to an order item when you want to copy the configuration of the order item to the process batch.

The system uses the batch class of the material of the required order item as the class for the process batch. In addition, the system copies the values of the characteristics that have the same name in the batch class for the order item and of the process batch.

Note Note

The material of the order item that you want to create the process batch for must be configured in the production order.

End of the note.

Background documentation

You can use the pushbutton Order Item Configuration in the Goods Receipt area to display the configuration of an order item.

Proceed as follows to create a process batch with reference to an order item:

  1. In the Goods receipt area, select the order item that you want to create a process batch for.

  2. Choose the pushbutton PB .

The system takes you to the characteristic valuation screen. The system has copied the characteristics of the same name from the configuration of the order item to the process batch.

Create without reference

If you create a process batch without reference, the system uses the batch class of the header material of the production order as the class for the process batch.

Choose the pushbutton Create process batch in the Process Batches area to create a process batch without reference. T he system takes you to the characteristic valuation screen.

Assign preceding batch

To ensure that the chain of batches within the production order is complete (from the input batch through to the goods receipt batch, and including all process batches), a preceding batch must exist for each process batch. For process batches at the higher process batch levels (>1), the system automatically uses the process batch that the new process batch was generated from as the preceding batch.

If you created a process batch with reference to an input batch, the system automatically uses the input batch as the preceding batch.

If you created a process batch with reference to an order item, or without any reference, you must manually assign an input batch as a preceding batch for this process batch.

Proceed as follows to assign a preceding batch to a process batch:

  1. Select the process batch in the Process Batch area and the component with the required input batch in the Goods Issue area.

  2. Choose the pushbutton PrecB .

The system assigns the preceding batch to the process batch and selects the indicator PB (preceding batch) for the process batch.

    Note Note

If you assign an input batch as a preceding batch at a later date, the system usually does not transfer the characteristic values for the input batch to the process batch.

    End of the note.

    Recommendation Recommendation

If you do want to transfer the characteristic values for the input batch to the process batch when making this assignment, you can implement customer-specific logic for the characteristic inheritance using the BAdI MILL_PC_CLSF_PRE.

Note that the system only transfers the characteristic values for the input batch to the process batch on process-batch level ‘1’ and not to process batches on higher process-batch levels.

    End of the recommendation.
