 Pack Non-Assigned Handling Units

Use

It is possible to create handling units without reference to a document. These "non-assigned handling units" are implemented whenever the physical creation of an HU is planned (in production, for example), or when an HU already exists physically but is not yet entered in the system (in the warehouse, for example).

Note Note

From the system’s point of view, each handling unit exists physically as soon as it has a status other than Planned .

End of the note.

When creating a non-assigned handling unit, you must specify the material items and the packaging, and also assign them to one another. A multi-level packaging hierarchy can also occur.

Repacking makes it possible to remove materials and handling units from a handling unit, and to assign them to another handling unit. The HU hierarchies and combinations can be changed as often as necessary. Furthermore, it is possible to automatically generate handling units according to the specification of material, quantity, and type of packing proposal (packing instruction, for example).

Features

When you create non-assigned handling units, there is a distinction between creating planned handling units and assembling handling units that physically exist (Status: Implemented or in the warehouse, for example). Planned handling units generally have no inventory management information and are used in production, for example. In production, handling units can be created without object reference by using packing orders, and then set to the status In the warehouse during the backflushing of handling units in repetitive manufacturing .

To set planned handling units to the In the warehouse status, these must be posted as goods receipt.

Handling units can only be created in the warehouse at packing locations. This process involves making posting changes to HU-managed storage locations for materials that were packed. The handling units created here are then handling units that include inventory management information.

You can use any available materials and packaging to assemble handling units manually. In the packing dialog , you can specify materials and packaging and then assign them to each other by selecting them accordingly. In contrast to the creation of handling units with document reference, further (header) data, such as plant, storage location and stock category, must be specified in advance. The warehouse number is determined from the plant and storage location. If you have implemented Warehouse Management (WM), you must also specify both the storage type and the storage bin for repacking.

When you create material items, you must specify the material number, source plant, source storage location, destination storage location, the quantity, the unit of measure, and, if you have implemented WM, also the storage type and the storage bin. The plant and storage location must match the destination warehouse number (which is determined from the plant and destination storage location). When you create non-assigned handling units in production, you only need to specify the plant. The system reads material-specific data such as base unit of measure, weight, and volume from the material master.

If you create handling units during backflushing (confirmation) to production, the material information is copied from the production data.

Creating packaging takes place either manually, by specifying a packaging material in the dialog, or by using packing instructions .

If you are dealing with handling units with inventory management information (for example, in the warehouse), a posting change for the material that was used is made from the item storage location to the destination storage location. For WM-managed storage locations, a corresponding storage unit is also created automatically.

If the material involved is managed by using serial numbers, the material must be serialized completely for the creation of handling units with inventory management information in an HU-managed storage location. If the number of serial numbers does not match the material quantity, you will not be able to save data.

If you are dealing with a material with batch requirements, the material must always be assigned to a batch when creating handling units. The only exception here is when the handling unit has not yet been posted for goods receipt.

In the case of planned handling units, the assignment of batches and serial numbers is required by goods receipt, at the latest. If not all serial numbers are assigned, it is not possible to post a handling unit for goods receipt.

Activities

In the packing dialog , create a new handling unit and process it as described in the Packing section.
