 Goods Issue and Picking

Use

Since all inventory is principally managed with handling units (HUs), it is necessary, even for pick transfer-orders, that the stock that is picked is repacked into a handling unit.

Features

During picking, if a complete stock pick is made, it is possible to leave the stock in the storage unit and post only the stock to another storage bin. In Customizing, you can define per storage type or movement type whether the system should transfer the entire handling unit in the confirmation transaction as a default.

However, for a partial pick, the partial quantity that was picked must be transfer-posted to a new handling unit. This handling unit is called a pick HU. The pick HU must be assigned to the transfer order before it is confirmed.

You can make this assignment either automatically during transfer-order creation (see also: Define control for automatic creation of pick HUs ) by using the Assign Pick-HU to Transfer Order function (under Start of the navigation path Outbound Process Next navigation step Picking End of the navigation path in the main menu) or by using the Pack function on the initial screen for transfer order confirmation. There is also a corresponding IDoc available.

During a complete stock pick, you can inform the system as the transfer order is confirmed whether the stock is to remain in the original HU or whether the stock is to be posted to the pick HU. If a partial pick is made, a posting change is always made to the pick HU. At confirmation, the first pick HU that was assigned to the transfer order is always suggested as a default, but the user can change the pick HU manually.

During picking from nested handling units, you must inform the system either which (entire) handling units were picked or from which handling units items were picked. If an entire nested HU was picked, it can retain its structure and simultaneously become a pick HU. It can also retain its structure and become a lower-level HU of the pick HU.

During partial picks from nested HUs, either a lower-level HU can be transferred into the pick HU (thus becoming a lower-level HU of the pick HU) or the lower-level HU structure is lost and only the material quantity is transferred into the pick HU. A lower-level HU that was picked cannot become a separate pick HU.

If the material that is to be picked is a material that is managed with serial numbers, you must record the serial numbers of the partial picks from HUs (or lower-level HUs). If an entire HU (or lower-level HU) is transferred into the pick HU, it is not necessary to record the serial number(s).

If the entire quantity of a transfer order item cannot be packed in one pick-HU, you can distribute the quantity into several pick-HUs at confirmation. This causes new transfer order items to be created internally. Currently, this function is not supported for materials with active ingredients or for materials with a batch-specific material unit of measure.

Differences during confirmation

In two-step confirmation, it is currently not possible to create HUs with differences in the second step.

Differences for materials that are managed with serial numbers can only be confirmed in the source storage bin.

If several picks are reported during confirmation, the delivery quantity must be adjusted to the pick quantity at confirmation.

If differences occur for picks from nested HUs, you must inform the system at confirmation in which lower-level HU the difference occurred.

Note that when the pick transfer-order is created, data is not yet updated in the transfer order’s destination storage bin. The exception to this rule is when the transfer order’s destination storage type has a putaway strategy or a capacity check, which is not recommended for picking.
