The following sections describe how to configure the user management engine (UME).

Starting User Management Configuration

User management configuration or UME configuration is a Web Dynpro application for configuring the UME. It is integrated in the SAP NetWeaver Administrator and in the System Administration role of the SAP NetWeaver Portal. You can also start this tool as a stand-alone console. Use the method most appropriate to your environment.

                            b.      Choose Configuration.

When possible, configure the AS Java to use Secure Socket Layer (SSL). For more information, see Configuring the Use of SSL on the AS Java.

Configuration

      UME Data Sources describes the following:

       Features and restrictions for the data sources supported by UME

       How to configure the UME to use a directory server as a data source

       Details on how to create a custom data source configuration file

Achtung

We do not recommend that you create your own data source configuration. You should only use this option in exceptional circumstances.

      Editing UME Properties describes how to change UME properties.

      Configuring the Security Policy for User ID and Passwords explains how to configure the UME security policy, which controls aspects such as password length.

      Notification by E-Mail describes how to set up UME to send automatic notification mails on specific events, for example, when an administrator locks a user.

      Enabling Users to Reset Their Own Password describes how you can configure logon help for users who forget their password.

      Configuring Delegated User Administration Using Companies outlines the UME company concept and explains how to use companies for self-registration with approval for a form of delegated user administration.

      Configuring Virtual Groups describes how to create groups at runtime based on the values of a user attribute.

      Adding Custom Attributes to the User Profile describes how to define attributes and add them to the user profile.

      Allowing Users to View the Contact Information of Other Users describes how you can grant business users the ability to view the contact information of other business users in your system.

      Additional Configuration Options provides information on how you can configure various aspects of UME functions.
