Use

The following functions are available as of SAP Banking Release 4.01.

Local currency conversion

During the dual currency phase, every company (and thus every bank) is allowed to specify a particular time when their books maintained in their participating currency are converted to EURO. SAP has conversion programs for this local currency conversion. At a specified key date, these programs convert all figures in the currency of a specified accounting area currency (for example, local currency of the company code, controlling area currency, or operating concern currency) to EURO. SAP recommends certain key dates depending on the components used, and the fiscal year.

The functions used for local currency conversion are described elsewhere.

Contract currency conversion and issue currency conversion

In addition to converting the local currency, during the dual currency phase every bank can offer to convert contracts in a participating currency into EURO for their customers. The function for converting contract currencies can be used for individual customers and contracts. Contract currencies are usually converted in the system in which the contracts are stored, and the conversion needs to be repeated in all downstream systems.

To allow every SAP Banking customer to convert the contract currencies in the SAP transaction data pool for SEM (as a downstream system), SAP provides special functions for contract currency conversion and issue currency conversion. These functions allow you to convert data at the finest level of detail, that is, at single transaction level and for every security class.

The following conversion options are available for converting the contract currency:

Explanation of additional functions:

I  The SAP system can be informed of the fact that financial transactions were converted in the upstream transaction system via external data transfer. The financial transactions now marked as relevant for conversion, can be converted with an additional function (see IV).

II You can make sure financial transactions converted in the upstream transaction system end up converted in your SAP system as well, by using EDT in update mode to transfer them to the SAP Banking transaction data pool.

III      No additional functions are offered for these transactions. The transactions have to be changed/converted manually.

IV      Additional functions described in the Development News.

The SAP Banking (additional) functions for transferring the transactions to be converted, and for subsequently converting the contract and issue currencies, are described below.

Legal requirements

In addition to the functions for converting the contract and issue currencies, SAP has developed functions which allow you to convert from EURO to participating currencies and vice versa, in accordance with all legal requirements. These functions are also described in the overview below.
