Procedure documentation Logging Output Data Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

 Use

You want to log output for test purposes or to correct an error.

Procedure

You can activate logging of output data for a specific printer in the Device definition.

Do the following:

...

       1.      In Spool Administration (transaction SPAD), switch to the Devices and Server tab page.

       2.      Either choose the Output Devices pushbutton and then the desired output device, or enter the name of the desired output device.

The Spool Administration: Output Device screen appears.

       3.      Switch to change mode, if you are not already in it.

       4.      Choose Edit ® Test Tool.

The Debugger tab page appears.

       5.      Select a logging method from the list. You have the following options:

·         Log the first 10 KB

·         Log the first 100 KB

With access method L, you can also select on the Debugger tab page whether the print command is to be logged. This is the command that the SAP System uses to pass an output request to the host system spooler.

Do not alter the settings of any other debugging options.

       6.      Save the device definition to make your changes effective.

       7.      Output data is logged for each output request sent to the printer until you turn data logging off on the Debugger tab page of the device definition.

Note

Remember to deactivate logging again. It can otherwise lead to performance and storage space problems.

Result

Logging the data captures it in the output log.

You can then display the output log and the data in the output controller (transaction SP01 ® Output Requests).

The data can also be displayed in hexadecimal form (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Hex).
