Procedure documentation Measurement Restrictions Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

In the Measurement Restrictions group box, you can specify which objects or functions are measured. Depending on the purpose of the measurement, you can assign specific settings to the measurement variant. These can be selected in the subsequent screens after choosing the Create or Change functions. The measurement restrictions apply to a program or parts of a program, selected statements as well as the measurement duration, the size of the measurement file, or the aggregation of the measured data.

Note

You can also check the Specific Units option to specify that coding extracts should only be measured if they:

  1. Occur between the SET RUNTIME ANALYZER ON and SET RUNTIME ANALYZER OFF statements in the source code.
  2. Occur after you have entered /ron in the command field, but before you enter /roff.
  3. Occur after you have activated the runtime analysis by choosing System ® Utilities ® Runtime Analysis.
  4. Have been restricted in the Debugger by means of two breakpoints.

The Within and Below option allows you to extend the depth of the measurement to include all the source code sections called from a particular program or section of a program.

Measurement Variants

If you choose the SAP Standard Variant function in the Measurement Restrictions group box, the system uses the SAP standard variant, which contains predefined settings for the statements to be measured, the duration of the measurement, and the size of the performance file. The variant description is shown as DEFAULT, while the By User field remains empty. This variant is always there and it can be neither changed nor deleted.

You can create your own standard variant by choosing Own Standard Variant. The system automatically creates the DEFAULT entry and fills the By User field with the name of the user. After choosing the Create function, you can define your desired settings.

You can create further variants by choosing Create and entering a variant name. You can also specify your name or that of another user as an ID, as long as there is a user master record for it.

For easier distinction you should enter a short text for each variant when you create it. You must always save a variant after creation or change so that it remains available with all its settings. In the Measurement Restrictions group box, there are pushbuttons for deleting and copying variants as well as the functions Create and Change.

To obtain an overview of all existing variants, call up the input help (F4) for the Variant field and do not enter a variant or a user in the subsequent popup. All variants assigned to a user are displayed if you only enter the user name in the popup.

When you first call the runtime analysis, the system displays your own standard variant first. If it does not exist, the system displays the SAP standard variant. For all further calls, the system shows the variant used last.
