Definition

SAP delivers Business Content in the SAP delivery version (D version).

Use

You need to transfer the Business Content objects in the active version (A version) in order to be able to work with them.

Structure

In SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence, we differentiate between the following object versions:

Version

Meaning

D(elivery)

SAP delivery version

A(ctive)

Active version

M(odified)

Modified version

Integration

The following diagram displays the Business Content versions

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

The black arrows represent how the versions are used in the delivery process:

...

       1.      SAP delivery

¡        SAP delivers the Business Content objects in the D Version.

¡        Changes are saved in the M version.

¡        Active Business Content is saved in the A version.

Only those objects that were stored in the A version are exported from the development system. When importing into the target system, these objects, dependent on object type, are either imported directly into the active version or in a modified version.

Example

Some examples of objects imported into the active version are:

·         Currency translation type

·         InfoObject catalog

Some examples of object types that are first imported into a modified version and are activated after the import:

·         InfoObject

·         InfoCubes

       2.      SAP Delivery (Business Content upgrade)

¡        SAP delivers the Business Content objects in a new D Version.

¡        The customer can compare the new Business Content with his/her active customer version and either adopt the new version or merge it with his/her version.

§         Install: The customer version is deleted and replaced by the new Business Content version.

§         Merge: The “total” is made up of both objects and is saved as a new customer version.

Example

The characteristic merge, for example, signifies an attribute join being constructed. For some properties, the customer has to select in the dialog which ones they want to transfer. Not all objects support merging. In particular, this includes transformation rules, update rules, and queries.

In the Install Business Content functional area in the Data Warehousing Workbench, you can collect and transfer the Business Content delivered by SAP. In this way, all additional necessary objects are taken into account automatically, as is the sequence of activation. You can choose whether you want to copy, match, or not install the Business Content objects.

Caution

If you do not perform a match, the SAP delivery version is adopted and the active customer versions are overwritten when you activate the Business Content.
