Inspection Lot Completion
After the results have been recorded for an inspection lot and the inspection is finished, you must reach a decision about the usage of the inspected material. With the Inspection Lot Completion (QM-IM-UD) component, you set the controls that:
· Complete an inspection (inspection lot completion)
· Make the usage decision for the inspection lot
·
Make the usage
decision for every individual operation in an inspection lot (for more
information, see
Completing the
Operations in an Inspection Lot)
· Perform stock postings for inspection lots created on the basis of goods movements (for example, to unrestricted-use stock, blocked stock, scrap)
When you make a usage decision for an inspection lot, the following occur automatically:
· A quality score is determined for the inspection lot
· The quality level (inspection stages for the next inspection lot) is updated
· The quality management information system is updated with statistical data
· Automatic follow-up actions are triggered
To make use of the full scope of services offered by the Inspection Lot Completion component, the following QM components must be implemented for inspection lot creation and the definition of codes in the usage decision catalog:
· Inspection Lot Creation (QM-IM-IL)
· Catalog (QM-PT-BD-CAT)
When you process inspection lots that reference objects from other applications or that are supported by other applications, you may have to implement one or more of the following components:
· Materials Management(MM) / Inventory Management (IM)
· Production Planning(PP) / Production Planning for Process Industries (PP-PI)
· Sales and Distribution(SD)
· Plant Maintenance(PM)
· Batches (LO_BM)
You can use the SAP Business Workflow (BC-BMT-WFM) component to trigger workflow tasks that are based on the usage decision (for example, to inform the person responsible that stock postings must still be performed, or that a long-term inspection has not been completed).
You can only make the usage decision for an inspection lot if all required characteristics and all processed optional characteristics have been completed. If long-term characteristics are still outstanding at inspection completion, the inspection is identified by the system as a short-term inspection at completion, and a comment to this effect is included. After inspection completion, the inspection results can no longer be changed.
When you make the usage decision you are deciding - on the basis of the inspection results - whether the goods are accepted or rejected. In the usage decision transaction you can also:
· Record defects
· Activate quality notifications
· Confirm activities for QM orders
· Perform stock postings
When you have made a usage decision, the inspection is completed.

If the inspection lot contains multiple specifications, it is possible to determine the suitability of the assigned batch based on the overall valuation of the multiple specifications when you are making the usage decision. For more information, see Multiple Specifications in the Usage Decision.
