Function documentation Suppression of Zeros and Zero Columns Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

In query properties, you are able to determine whether rows or columns that contain zeros as values are displayed or not displayed.

Features

The following settings are available to you in the query properties:

You can choose that zeros be displayed (No zero suppression takes place).

If you want to suppress zeros, there are two setting options: Active and Active (All Values = 0).

You determine whether zero suppression applies to rows and columns, only to rows or only to columns.

In the properties for a structure, you can also determine whether zero suppression should be applied to structure elements.

Settings: Active and Active (All Values = 0)

The two settings Active and Active (All Values = 0) only differ in their affect on queries that have characteristics in the rows and columns (cross-classified table). For queries that have characteristics in the rows and key figures in the columns (or the other way around, with key figures in the rows and characteristics in the columns), the effect of the settings Active and Active (All Values = 0) is identical.

For example, you have the following query in which the characteristic Month appears in the rows and the characteristic Customer is in the columns:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Setting Active

If you use zero suppression with the Active setting, the system checks whether there are zero values in the results area (outside edge of the table, colored yellow here). If there are zero values in the results area, the associated row or column is hidden. If you specify that zero suppression applies to Rows and Columns, the query will be displayed as follows:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Setting: Active (All Values = 0)

If you use zero suppression with the setting Active (All Values = 0), the system hides all rows or columns that contain zero values. The query from the example above will look like this if you use the setting Active (All Values = 0) for Rows and Columns:

Note

If a detail row is not equal to zero (for example in a hierarchy) then all of the rows that are superordinate will be displayed even if they contain zeros. As a result, the system ensures that the business context of the query remains for the end user, even during active zero suppression.

Applying Zero Suppression to Structure Elements As Well

For example, you have the following query in which the characteristic Country and the characteristic structure Electronics are in the rows and the key figure Number of Products Sold is in the columns:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

You see that the characteristic value Motherboard Notebook Speedy I CN has zero values that you want to hide. In the properties for the query, activate zero suppression and in the properties for the electronics structure, choose Apply Zero Suppression to Structure Elements. The query is displayed as follows:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Activities

Make your desired setting in the Query Properties, under Suppress Zeros. In the Structure Properties you are able to determine whether zero suppression should be applied to the structure components.

The corresponding setting options are available to you in the following areas of the Business Explorer:
