Process Chain Maintenance
Process chain maintenance automates process flows in BI.
If you want to include a load process in a process chain, you need to have already created an InfoPackage in the scheduler.
You can execute
various tasks in specified views, in the process chain maintenance. Different
views, which you get by using the Go to menu, facilitate chain
management. You define the process chain and schedule individual processes in
the
Plan View. You can use Drag&Drop to
include the processes to be scheduled in the chain, beginning with the general
start process. You can also then create links. Before you activate the chain,
check for errors in the
Check View. When you schedule the
process chain, the chain run starts according to the start process selections.
You can call the process monitor and display the logs for a process chain run
in the
Log View.
There are various ways of accessing the process chain maintenance.
·
In the
administration function area of the Data Warehousing Workbench, choose
Process Chains from the navigation pane
to call the process chain maintenance.
·
In the modeling
function area, you can call the process chain maintenance by choosing
on the toolbar (or by choosing Edit
® Process Chains from the menu).
·
Choose
Process Chain Maintenance on the
toolbar to access process chain maintenance from the maintenance dialogs of
the BI-supported processes.
You then create a variant for the latest process, assign a description for the
process chain, maintain additional associated process variants, and then
create the links.
The display of the process chain plan view appears. Here you can either call an existing process chain, or create a new one. When you call the process chain maintenance from the maintenance dialog of a process, the system displays the process chain that contains these processes as a variant. If the process is used in more than one process chain you can select which process chain is to be displayed.
The chain is not locked in the display view of the process chain. Neither is the transport system called. If the active and edited versions of the chain concur, you can schedule the chain in the display view. You can access the Change Mode by choosing Process Chain ® Display/Change.
In the left-hand
area of the screen there is a navigation area that you can use to call
navigation trees for process chains (
)
and process types (
), as well as logs
for process chains (
). The navigation
trees
InfoSources and
Data Targets simplify the insertion of
InfoPackages and processes for data targets. To facilitate the finding of
required objects in these trees, you can execute a search using the
icon.
The system displays the process chains (processes and their links) in a network graphic, in the right-hand area of the screen.

You can also display the chains in a tree display that is designed for screen reader devices. You can choose between the display variants by choosing Settings ® Network Display/Tree Display.
You can call
information about the status of the processes and links by choosing the
Legend for a process chain maintenance
view.
