Component documentation Technical Topology of the Monitoring Architecture Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

Using the Monitoring Architecture, you can monitor a large number of servers in different systems and have the system output the results in preset or individually created monitors. Use the display of the technical topology any time to obtain an overview of the connections to SAP systems, segments, contexts, or CCMS agents that are known to the monitoring architecture.

The technical topology display is an analysis tool for experts and is not intended as an every-day device during error-free CCMS monitoring. Use the display if connection problems occur to remote SAP systems or Structure linkCCMS agents. You can also obtain an overview of the system landscape from the point of view of the central monitoring system using the topology display.

You can quickly isolate connection problems and test connections using the hierarchy of systems, segments and contexts. You also obtain a quick overview of which monitoring segments, application servers or CCMS agents are currently online.

Integration

The technical topology replaces the previous Segment Overview and Context Overview functions, which have fewer features, have only a simple list display and do not allow you to switch between segments and contexts. The old functions also do not allow you to display segments or contexts from remote, monitored SAP systems.

Features

The topology display includes the following data in four tab pages:

The system displays all systems that are known to the monitoring architecture with their most important properties. If you select one of the displayed systems by double clicking the appropriate line, the topology display shows three tab pages: the Segments, Contexts and CCMS Agents of the selected system, rather than those for the local system.

A monitoring segment is a storage area in the shared memory of an instance that the monitoring architecture uses for all active contexts and collected monitoring attributes. A monitoring segment therefore contains all active components and data.

A monitoring context is the highest node of a monitoring tree and contains all monitoring objects and monitoring attributes belonging to the tree. A context is unique in a segment and at system level. A segment can contain various contexts.

CCMS agents are independent processes with an interface through RFC to a central monitoring system and an interface to the monitoring segment of the shared memory. They provide a connection method, in addition to a defined ABAP interface, between the monitored and the monitoring systems. Their advantage lies in their universal usability, as agents allow the inclusion of SAP components without ABAP interfaces and non-SAP components.
