Material Planning Object 

Definition

An object for planning the authorized materials of a force element or position with non-consumable goods.

Material planning objects (MPOs) describe equipment (such as medium size truck), without a concrete model (such as truck of type X from manufacturer Y) or concrete material (such as serial number 4711) having been defined.

Use

Use this object to describe, on a rough business level, which type of equipment (such as specific vehicles, machines, tools, or communication equipment) an organizational unit or position, represented by a force element, requires to perform its tasks.

You specify quantities to define in terms of non-consumable goods, the authorized materials of a force element or position, which in Materials Management are compared with actual materials (held in stock in the force element’s stock storage locations).

For the MPO itself, you use models to specify which material master records can be used to supply the force element with the required material.

Structure

Technically, the MPO is implemented as an iPPE node of type S_DFMPO.

Status

MPOs have their own status but no validity period (in contrast to the assignment of the MPO to a different object).

An MPO can have the following statuses from SAP status management: Planned, Requested, Released by Material Owner, Approved, Locked, Flagged for Deletion, Deletion Requested, Obsolete, and Rejected. See also Status Networks.

Properties

For MPOs, you can assign properties using the following header data, tab pages, fields/field groups, and pushbuttons in the application Authorized Materials and Material Packages:

·        Header Data

¡        Material Planning Object

The unique object ID of the MPO.

¡        Description

The long name of the MPO.

·        Basic Data tab page

¡        Material Owner

You specify who (organizational unit/force element, position, or person), as material owner, is responsible for processing the MPO. This enables you to control the assignment of authorizations for processing the objects.

¡        MPO Material Master

For an MPO, you can define properties that belong to a material master record by default. When an MPO is created, the system automatically creates a material master record of the material type material planning object.

This material master record has a purely technical function (used for storing properties) and does not represent a specific material.

To edit the properties, you can navigate from this field to the Create/Change Material application (transaction MM01 or MM02). For more information about this application, see the documentation for the Materials Management component in SAP Library under SAP ERP Central Component ® Logistics.

You can define the prefix for the names of the generated material masters in the IMG activity Define Name Prefix for Material Masters by choosing Defense Forces and Public Security ® Organizational Flexibility ® Material Planning Objects and Material Packages. The name then comprises this prefix and the object ID of the MPO.

In this way, you can define data about the weight and measurements, for example, directly in the MPO (and independently of the assigned models and materials), or identify the object as military material (relevant for export regulations and arms control). You can choose this pushbutton to change the status of the MPO.

¡        Classification by RIC

You can assign an MPO to a reportable item code.

¡        Inheritance

Properties of an MPO that are managed in the material master can be passed on to material master records that are assigned as models and vice versa. The material group is inherited by default:

§         Material Group

The assignment to a material group (material groups group together several materials with the same properties). It is used to map the material group and class.

If the MPO’s material group is changed, the system checks whether all associated models are also assigned to the new material group. If this is not the case, the user is informed and the material group is changed in the material master records (models) involved.

In Customizing for Defense Forces & Public Security, you can define which properties are to be inherited and in which direction by choosing Organizational Flexibility ® Material Planning Objects and Material Packages ® BAdI: Inheritance.

The MPO material master and assigned material master records (models) for properties for which you have not set up inheritance are allowed to have different attributes (no additional effects).

¡        Relocation-Relevant

Indicates whether the assigned material is relevant for relocation and whether it is to be exported to non-SAP systems for controlling relocation processes, if necessary.

¡        Level of Detail

You set this indicator if you want to enable an MPO to be planned in detail and converted right up to serial number level.

In order to use this indicator in operational logistics, you must enter a serial number profile in the material master data for all materials that have been assigned as models to the MPO. Whether or not a material can or must be converted at serial number level depends on the serial number profile that has been entered for it.

¡        Weights and Measurements

All the weights and measurements specified in the MPO material master and in material master records assigned using models.

You can use the above Business Add-In, BAdI: Inheritance, for the inheritance of weights and measurements.

·        OrgAreas tab page

In order to prevent an MPO being overplanned for a given organizational area, you can define subscribing organizational areas (see Force Element) and the quantities planned for them.

You can check overplanning and underplanning using the scheduled material planning objects report.

·        Additional Parts tab page

You can assign other MPOs to an MPO as additional parts. Additional parts represent equipment that is managed individually as MPOs for planning reasons but that is needed to run the equipment to which it belongs.

¡        MPO

The unique object ID of the MPO assigned as an additional part.

¡        Description

The long name of the MPO assigned as an additional part.

¡        Quantity

The planned quantity of the MPO assigned as an additional part.

¡        Assignment Indicator

When you assign authorized materials to a different object, additional parts are not proposed automatically as authorized materials . You can set the Assgmt Ind. to define how the system is to respond:

§         Mandatory Part

The additional part is a mandatory part.

§         Optional Part

The additional part is an optional part and a separate decision must be made about each assignment depending on the type of operation or the task in question.

§         No Special Identification

The additional part is an optional part and the system informs you of available scheduling for this additional part to enable you to make a decision regarding further scheduling.

For mandatory parts, optional parts, and parts without any special indication, you can define whether they are preselected for the assignment and whether the selection can be changed during planning in the IMG activity Control Assignment of Additional Parts by choosing Defense Forces and Public Security ® Organizational Flexibility ® Material Planning Objects and Material Packages.

·        Components tab page

You can assign other MPOs to an MPO as components. Components are also mapped as MPOs and represent equipment that is a fixed part of the equipment it belongs to, but that is managed individually for planning reasons.

Components of an MPO are grouped together and assigned as a component BOM. This enables you to map alternative component BOMs.

¡        Alternative

The name assigned automatically to the component BOM when it is created.

¡        Description

The long name of the component BOM.

¡        Status

The status of the component BOM.

Only one approved component BOM can exist for a particular MPO at any given time.

·        Models tab page

To specify MPOs in more detail, that is, to define possible materials, you assign material master records to MPOs as models.

¡        Model

The name of the model.

¡        Material

The short name of the associated material master record.

¡        Description

The long name of the associated material master record.

¡        Detailed Planning

You specify which model the system is to use as the default value.

¡        Lock Flag

You can use the lock flag to exclude individual models from further use in the system.

¡        Standard Price

The maximum cross-plant standard price of the assigned material master record.

·        Classification tab page

On this tab page, you can assign an MPO a class from SAP R/3 classification. For more information, see the documentation for Classification System in SAP Library under SAP ERP Central Component ® Cross-Application Components ® Classification.

·        WBS Elements tab page

The WBS elements assigned to the MPO.

·        Documents tab page

As in the case of force elements, you can also assign documents to MPOs. See also Documents.

·        Texts tab page

In the Description field, you can define one name for each language required, if necessary. The name assigned when the MPO is created is transferred automatically for the logon language.

·        Force Elements or Positions/Jobs tab page

Displays the objects to which the MPO is assigned as authorized materials. On these tab pages you can also make assignments. To do so, choose Append Row.

·        Material Container tab page

An overview of the material containers (MCs) to which the MPO is assigned. You can also make assignments to MCs.

¡        MC

The object ID of the MC to which the MPO is assigned.

¡        Description

A description of the MC to which the MPO is assigned.

¡        Number

The number/quantity of material required.

¡        Material Ind.

The material indicator used for the assignment.

¡        Status

The status of the assignment of the MPO to the MC. The assignment can have the following statuses: Planned, Requested, Approved, Rejected, Locked, and Obsolete. You can choose this pushbutton to change the status of the assignment.

For this object, you can define your own fields, without the need for any extra modifications. To do so, use the include CI_PNMPO in table /ISDFPS/PNMPO.

To display details about an MPO that is assigned as authorized materials:

·        Choose the required object under Material Categories in the selection area in the Structures Workbench

·        Call up the required object for display in the application Authorized Materials and Material Packages

Integration

Several MPOs can be grouped together in an MC or material planning object view.

Material planning objects that are assigned to a force element can be assigned to relocation steps.

Material

·        You can navigate from a displayed material to the properties of the material master record.

·        You can display the MPOs assigned to a material in the application Create/Change/Display Material (transaction MM01/MM02/MM03) in the material master (Basic Data 1 tab page).

·        You can navigate to the MPO from the material.
