Original Batch

Definition

You can use an original batch to store the original attributes (characteristics) of a production lot or procurement lot, by creating the batch directly for a production order item or a purchase order item.

You can create an original batch for a purchase order item or a production order item, even if

the material to procure or produce is not inventory-managed
different materials are produced in a single lot
a single lot is produced in partial quantities

Use

You can use original batches to

Store those attributes of a material that do not change throughout the production process

This means that you can, for example, store the attributes of a starting material that cannot or should not be placed in storage.

Example

In the production of chromium-nickel steel, the percentage portions of carbon, chrome, and nickel in the metal melt is important. Further production steps such as rolling or cutting do not changes these attributes. The attributes can be stored in an original batch for the metal melt, and are valid for all batches produced from this particular metal melt.

Structure

An original batch is uniquely identified by the batch number, the material, and the plant.

The data from the original batch is stored in a standard batch master record. A batch only becomes an original batch when you assign it to a purchase order or a production order.

Integration

You can create original batches for purchase orders, manufacturing orders, and process orders.

Using Derivation for Batch Data , you can also pass on the characteristics from original batches to inventory-managed batches.

Original batches are connected to the Batch Where-Used List and the Batch Information Cockpit .
