Background documentation Availability: Setting Up a GRMG Scenario Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use the automatic availability monitoring GRMG (Generic Request and Message Generator) through the CCMS to determine a possible server or process outage.

The central monitoring system uses the GRMG to periodically check the availability of the J2EE Engine. If the availability check fails, an alert is triggered in the central monitoring system.

The GRMG scenario is contained in the installation of the J2EE Engine. To start availability monitoring, you must install a SAPCCMSR agent with the J2EE option, and register it with a central ABAP system (SAP NetWeaver AS). For more information see Structure linkInstalling Agent on Java Instance (Java Standalone System) or Structure linkInstalling Agent on Java Instance (Double Stack System).

You can then start the GRMG scenario in the Visual Administrator ® Server  ® Services  ®  Monitoring  ® GRMG Customizing.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Select the scenario, change the Customizing settings as described in Structure linkEnabling the Availability Monitoring of J2EE Engine, and choose Upload.

Result

The file GRMG_sap.com~com.sap.engine.heartbeat.xml is stored in the GRMG directory of your installation (default path C:\usr\sap\prfclog\grmg).

Note

A report that runs hourly informs the agent about the GRMG scenario. It can therefore take 59 minutes before the agent transfers data to the central system for the first time and the GRMG monitor is created.
