Background documentation Regular Tasks in SLD Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Today’s system landscapes consist of multiple distributed software components with different platform dependencies, different interfaces, and different requirements placed on installation and change management. An overall concept is required that facilitates the implementation, upgrade, and maintenance of your system landscapes – including the SAP NetWeaver system landscape you are installing. This is where the System Landscape Directory (SLD) comes into play.

SLD acts as the central information provider for SAP and third-party tools where comprehensive information about all the installable and installed elements of your system landscape is stored. It contains a description of your system landscape (that is, software components that are currently installed) and a repository of software components that can theoretically be installed in your landscape (such as the software components available from SAP). Since the data gets updated automatically, SLD provides reliable and up-to-date system landscape information with as little effort for you as possible.

Prerequisites

SLD is already contained in the installation of every SAP NetWeaver 2004s system with usage type AS Java. Therefore, no installation is required to activate SLD – you only have to perform the easy configuration as a post installation step. You can find information on how to do the SLD post installation in the SAP Service Marketplace under the link /sld ® Media Library ® Post Installation Guide.
