Function documentation Monitoring System Availability with the NW Administrator Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can use this plug-in to quickly and simply check the availability of your monitored systems and the associated instances. Technically, this availability monitoring is performed by the availability agent CCMSPING in the central monitoring system (CEN) (see Structure linkAvailability Monitoring with CCMSPING). The following information is displayed:

·        Availability, database host, release, and a short description of the monitored systems A system is regarded as available if the message server responds to the availability agent’s request and at least one instance is registered as active with the message server.

·        The following data is displayed for the availability of ABAP instances:

¡        Availability (Message Server) shows whether the server is reported as active at the ABAP message server.

¡        Availability (Logon Check) specifies whether it is possible to log onto the server; an RFC call directly to the server is used to test this.

¡        The number of users logged on, the dialog response time, and the standardized response time are also displayed as ABAP Instance Details.

·        The following data is displayed for the availability of Java instances:

¡        Availability (Message Server) shows whether the server is reported as active at the relevant message server. In the case of double-stack systems, you can use both the Java and the ABAP message servers for the monitoring, if the availability monitoring is appropriately configured.

¡        The host name and port number and the number of available server nodes of the instance are also displayed as Java Instance Details.

Note

The availability data corresponds to the data that you can display in the Structure linkAvailability and Performance Overview Monitor in CEN.

Prerequisites

For you to be able to display the availability information in the NW Administrator, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

·         All systems to be monitored and CEN must be entered in your System Landscape Directory (SLD).

·         You have connected the SLD to the NW Administrator (see Configuring the SAP NetWeaver Administrator to Work with the SLD)

·         You have entered the connection to CEN in the Visual Administrator (see Defining the Central Monitoring System for the NW Administrator).

·         The availability agent CCMSPING must be installed and registered in CEN. For more information, see Structure linkInstalling the CCMSPING Availability Agent.

Availability information is displayed for all systems that you selected in the System Landscape Selection (see System Landscape Selection):

Note

Note that systems that are not monitored in the availability monitoring in CEN cannot be monitored. They are displayed in the NW Administrator with the icon This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (System not Configured) in the Current State display. To monitor the system, choose the icon and enter the following data:

·         Description of the system

·         Responsible CCMSPING (you only need to enter this if you are Structure linkUsing Multiple CCMSPING Agents)

Then choose the Enable Availability Monitoring button. The availability monitoring for the selected system is activated in CEN. The first availability data is delivered after approximately 5 minutes. Alternatively, you can perform the configuration in CEN (see Structure linkConfiguring Availability Monitoring).

Status of a Selected System (<SysID> on <Host>)

·        The System Info tab page displays additional information about the selected system. This includes the status of the system with respect to each registered CCMSPING. In this way, you can extend the availability with accessibility information by Structure linkUsing Multiple CCMSPING Agents.

·        The System Instances tab page displays the status of all instances of the selected system. In addition to the availability according to the message server, the availability by Logon Check is also displayed for ABAP instances. In this case, an RFC call is made directly to the server. With this method, an instance is regarded as available if a free dialog work process responds to this call; that is, if it is possible to log on to this instance.

·        All alerts from the Availability and Performance Overview monitor for the selected system are displayed on the Alerts tab page These are, among others:

¡        For ABAP instances: threshold values being exceed, for the above performance values

¡        For instances and the system itself: the percentage availability falling below the threshold value

¡        Errors in the configuration and CCMSPING errors

Status of a Selected Instance (ABAP/Java Instance Details)

Choose an instance to also display the following data for that instance:

·        ABAP instance

¡        Dialog response time

¡        Number of users logged on

¡        Standardized dialog response time

·        Java Instance

¡        Host and port of the instance

¡        Number of server nodes
