Background documentation DataSources Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Description

Until now, DataSources were known as DataSource replicates (object type R3TR ISFS) in the BI system. As of SAP NetWeaver 2004s, a new object concept is available for DataSources. This concept is used in conjunction with the changed object concepts in data flow and process design (transformation, InfoPackage for loading to the PSA, data transfer process for data distribution within BI). The object type for a DataSource from the new concept - subsequently called DataSource - is R3TR RSDS.

If your dataflow is modeled with objects based on the previous concept (3.x InfoSources, 3.x transfer rules, 3.x update rules) and the process design is based on these objects, you can continue to work with 3.x DataSources to transfer data into BI from a source system.

For more information, see Structure linkDataSource.

General Practices with Emulation and Migration

If you want to migrate an existing data flow, emulate the DataSource first to use transformations to model the data flow and then test it. You can then migrate the 3.x DataSource into a DataSource and use the benefits of the new concepts for your scenario.

For more information, see Structure linkEmulation, Migration and Restoring DataSources.
