The figure below shows the simplest installation of the AS Java. The installation consists of a database, Central Services (Message Service and Enqueue Service), a dispatcher, a server process and the Software Deployment Manager (SDM):
Simple AS Java Installation
The system consists of two instances: a Java central instance with SDM, and the Central Services instance. All of this can run on one physical machine, but one instance cannot be distributed to several hosts.
An installation is called a cluster installation as soon as there are more cluster elements than one dispatcher and one server process installed.
The AS Java is started and monitored by the Java Startup and Control Framework. In this section you can also find a description of the most important processes of the AS Java at operating system level.
For details on architecture and the components of such a system, see the Architecture Manual.
