Support Package Stacks and SAP Note Implementation

Support Package Stacks offer regular updates of SAP NetWeaver. Within the stacks themselves there are MI client-specific Support Packages for software updates.

The SAP Notes are provided for urgent corrections and solutions to smaller problems.

Perform the following tasks as and when required:

Task

Description

Software maintenance for SAP NetWeaver MI:

Import available Support Packages and patches

Updates for the SAP NetWeaver MI Client Component are performed when Support Packages are implemented. The available Support Packages can be found in the SAP Support Portal at service.sap.com/swdc by choosing the path: Download ® Support Packages and Patches ® Entry by Application Group ® SAP NetWeaver ® SAP NETWEAVER ® SAP NetWeaver <name of release> ® Entry by Component ® MI Client.

We recommend reading the respective Support Package Stack Guide before importing a Support Package Stack. You can find this documentation in the SAP Support Portal at service.sap.com/swdc by choosing the path: Download ® Support Packages and Patches ® Entry by Application Group ® SAP NetWeaver ® SAP NETWEAVER ® SAP NetWeaver <name of release>. Choose the Documentation link for the stack you want.

For more information on the installation itself, see Structure linkInstallation of Corrections on the Mobile Device.

Implement individual corrections

To solve smaller problems you can use the SAP Notes for individual corrections.

SAP Notes can be found in the SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/notes.

The Note Assistant is supported for the ABAP components of Mobile Infrastructure.

Transport and Change Management

Using the migration tool for Smart Synchronization you can transport SyncBo definitions from one SAP Web Application to another. You can use this tool, for example, to transport to the production system when you have completed your tests in the test system. In doing so, you can export and import SyncBOs (flat file or transport file). For more information, see Structure linkMigration Tool.

Release and Upgrade Management

If you are using release ME 2.1 SPS<xx>  or MI 2.5 SPS<xx> (SPS<xx>: greater or equal to SPS01), you can upgrade to release 2004s. You have the following two options:

·        Immediate upgrade to SAP NetWeaver 2004s
You install the new version on top of the old version. If you choose to use this option, you must upgrade all the mobile devices to the new version simultaneously.

·        Upgrade to 2004s with simultaneous use of older version
You temporarily use two servers with the old and new version used in parallel. This is, however, only possible when the mobile application supports this procedure. You then upgrade the mobile devices to the new version on a gradual basis.

For more information on this, see Upgrade to SAP NetWeaver 2004s Usage Type MI (see SAP Service Marketplace service.sap.com/upgradenw2004s  ® Upgrade Master Guide).
