The Enterprise Data Warehousing scenario involves various monitoring tasks. The main tasks are listed in the Administration functional area in the Data Warehousing Workbench.

The following list provides an overview of these tasks:

Task

Description and Detailed Information

Monitor BI using the BW Monitor in CCMS

The Computing Center Management System (CCMS) has an alert monitor to help you monitor and operate your SAP systems. The CCMS monitor sets of the alert monitor, together with the BW monitor, contain a selection of BI-relevant standard SAP contexts and the BI-specific contexts; process chains and RSRV.

See also: Structure linkBW Monitor in CCMS

You can use the CCMS Alert Monitor to check whether alerts have been triggered for UD Connect. For more information, see the SAP NetWeaver Installation Guide at Business Intelligence ® UDI Settings by Purpose ® Install Availability Monitoring for UD Connect in CCMS.

Monitor data requests

Requests and data processing in BI are monitored using the extraction monitor.

See also: Structure linkExtraction Monitor

Monitor open hub requests

When you activate and execute your InfoSpoke, a request is generated. This request is displayed in the open hub monitor where you can check the status.

See also: Structure linkOpen Hub Monitor

Monitor data requests and data processing for real-time data acquisition

The monitor for real-time data acquisition displays requests for InfoPackages and requests for data transfer processes, together with their status. You can navigate to the request monitor to display detailed information.

Display status of the aggregates

Display structure, status and properties of BI accelerator indexes

Monitor loading, activation and update status of DataStore objects

Check the BI delta queue

The delta queue is a data store for change records in the source system. In the delta queue for a DataSource, you can check whether, how much, and what data it contains. For DataSources that support generic deltas, you can display the current value of the delta-relevant field in the delta queue.

Description and Detailed Information

Check process chain runs

In the log view of process chain maintenance, you can check the process chain runs.

Manage InfoProviders

The administration of InfoProviders allows you to trace the status of a request in an InfoProvider and verify the InfoProvider contents.

Check execution of queries or query views

The BEx Monitor provides various options for checking the execution of queries or query views in the back end of the BW system.

Record trace and log files:

Trace tool environment

BI statistics

In the trace tool environment (transaction RSTT), the trace tool allows you to record and play back user activities for a particular area of application. In addition, you can define, execute and evaluate automatic regression tests in the integrated CAT tool of the trace tool environment.

See also: Structure linkTrace Tool Environment. This environment replaces and enhances the functions of the OLAP trace tool (see Structure linkOLAP Trace Tool (Old)).

BI Statistics is a tool for analyzing and optimizing processes in BI.

Monitor BI log files

The log files can be found in the Log Viewer under ./log/Application/BI/*.

Description and Detailed Information

Switch BI accelerator index to inactive if the BI accelerator is not available

BI queries that use an InfoCube as the data provider terminate if a BI accelerator index has been created for the InfoCube but the BI accelerator is not available.

Call the index maintenance for the BI accelerator.

Select the relevant BI accelerator index and choose Switch On/Off to set it to inactive.
