Keyboards
The POS keyboard can be mapped to any of the SAP Enterprise POS functions using the Configurator. Due to the limited size of keyboards and the relatively small number of functions that you can assign to the keys if only one assignment per key is allowed, the Configurator allows for multiple definitions of a given key, thus enabling alternate key mappings to be utilized depending on the state of the POS terminal. For example, as the cashier proceeds through the usual processing of transactions, the POS moves from one state to the next and, in some cases, back again depending on the type of transaction they are performing. Since the POS changes states, for example, from Not In Transaction to Sale Transaction, the keys that appear on the POS terminal change to reflect different functions.
In addition to a physical keyboard, you can also display a static keypad and a pop-up keyboard on the POS terminal. The keypad is defined in the Configurator in the same manner as the physical keyboard. Quick keys that are used for frequent operations can be configured using adjacent keys with the same mapping. The quick keys are displayed as a block of buttons on the POS terminal.
A composite filter is available to filter the display by the state of the POS, by transaction type, or by function type.
By configuring a keyboard you define what is displayed on the POS and how it displays. A filter can be applied by state, transaction, and function to customize the way in which the Keyboards screen lists the keys, thus making it easy to see and configure a set of keys that are active at a given time.
