Menus are used to organize and provide access to functions and features, that are initiated at the POS terminal. You can create different menu profiles to group related functions.

Example Example

You might need to use different options during a return or a pending transaction than during a regular sale, so you set up a menu profile for a regular sale, another for a return, and a third for pending transactions.

End of the example.

When each function is executed, the menu defined for that specific function is the one that displays on the POS terminal. To set up a menu, specify the functions or options that it references. A menu can display as many items as required on the screen in any configuration desired.

For each function on the menu, you must specify a label, provide the ID of the function that you are referencing, and define what to display on the POS terminal when the function is complete.

This section describes menu parameters.

General

Screen Element

Description

Prompt Line

Prompt that links to the menu feature. For example, you can prompt the cashier to Enter an item during a return

User Instruction

Message that displays with the prompt line. For example, when performing a return you may want to tell the cashier to Enter an item or Select an option

Attribute Override

Prompt whose attribute is used instead of the other prompt type attribute

Use Prompt Attributes From Menu Buttons

Controls whether or not the POS terminal sets the formatting attributes of the default prompt (the prompt displayed if no menu button is pressed) based on the first prompt associated with a menu button. If this check box is selected, the POS looks for the first User-Defined Function (UDF) menu button and uses the properties of the first prompt in the data form tied to that UDF

Disable Scanner

Disables the scanner when the menu is active. It prevents scanning or beeping until you select a menu option, therefore notifying the cashier that something must be completed before continuing with scanning

Force Menu Entry Only

Disables the keyboard and forces the menus to be the only data entry source

Allow Tender Filtering

Dynamically filters a tender according to eligibility rules triggered during a transaction

Menu to Display on Clear

Menu that appears on the POS terminal when you perform the Clear function. Menu types can include:

  • Standard Menu — defined for the current state

  • This Menu — the POS remains in the same state

  • Back One — previously displayed menu

Menu Type

Specifies options for the menu type

Label

This parameter displays the following options:

  • Label — wording for an item that is represented on the menu

  • Graphic — graphic file on the user interface. For Windows operating systems, the default path where graphic files are stored is at the root in the Transactionware Enterprise\Images directory. For Linux operating systems the default path is at the root in the Transactionware Enterprise/Images directory.

  • Quick Key — Quick ID to access a quick key

Option

This parameter displays the following options:

  • Type — the type of option for this menu is as follows: Function (UDF), Menu, Literal, Key Function, and Automatic

Note Note

To override a function for credit card type transactions, specify the prompt that the cashier enters at the POS terminal, you can select from the following options:

  • Type — displays Key Function

  • ID — displays PROMPT_OVERRIDE

This ensures that the display at the POS terminal shows a card number prompt and not an amount, such as the dollar or pound sign. The cashier is permitted to enter an amount before or after a card swipe

End of the note.

Note Note

If your Option Type is a Function, you can add additional parameters to the menu option, or edit an existing parameter by choosing Details. You can enter or edit additional information as required.

End of the note.
  • ID — ID of the selected type. Options differ by the Type option selected. For example, if you select Key Function as the Option Type, you can choose HALO as the ID. If you choose Menu as the Option Type, you are not presented with the HALO option. For more information about these settings, see Permissions

Note Note

To override a function for credit card type transactions and specify the prompt that the cashier enters at the POS Terminal, you can select from the following options:

  • Type — displays Key Function

  • ID — displays PROMPT_OVERRIDE

This ensures that the display at the POS shows a card number prompt and not an amount, such as the dollar or pound sign. It also permits the cashier to enter an amount before or after a card swipe

End of the note.
