Masking Rules is a security feature that hides portions of information such as a credit card number or gift receipt amounts when printing. When a cashier is prompted at the POS terminal to request a customer’s credit card number that would subsequently be printed on the receipt, the card number can be hidden.

Note Note

The credit card number is masked on the store receipt and customer receipt. It is not masked in the electronic journal, the screen display, slip printing, or the TLog.

End of the note.

A masking rule can be applied to any variable in a document, but is most commonly used for masking credit card and gift receipt amounts.

This section describes parameters for creating a masking rule.

Specifies the mask for a transaction. You must enter characters as follows: p for the prefix mask, followed by any symbol for the translation mask, and s for the suffix mask

Example Example

When you enter pppp#ssss, the pppp in the prefix mask represents but does not hide the first four digits of the number that you want to mask. The pound symbol # is the translation mask that hides the portion of the entire number, and ssss is the suffix mask that represents but does not hide, the last four digits of the entire number.
