Prerequisites

  • You are assigned the portal Content Admin role.

  • You have activated the Social Content Admin role.

  • You have already created the entities for which you want to define relationships.

Context

The following procedure describes how to create a new relationship and map its source and target entities to the relevant columns in the data source files.

When editing the mapping of source and target entities to data source columns, the changes are applied only after performing a data load. For more information, see Loading Data to People Explorer.

Procedure

  1. In the People Explorer Administration window, select Start of the navigation path Relationships Next navigation step Create Relationship End of the navigation path.

    The Create Relationship window appears.

The progress bar on the right indicates the current step.

  2. In the Name field, enter a name for the relationship.
  3. Select the source entity.
  4. Select the target entity.
  5. Select an existing relationship type to be used as a template, or create a new one.
  6. Choose Next.
  7. Map the source and target entities to the corresponding columns in the relevant data source files:
    1. From the Available Data Sources panel, select a data source.

    2. Choose Retrieve to retrieve the list of columns in the data source.

    3. For each entity, from the Attribute dropdown list, select the attribute that identifies the entity and is used to define the relationship.

    4. For each entity, from the Column dropdown list, select the column in the data source that matches entity identifier.

      Example

You have the following data sources:

      • Employee: Contains profile information of an employee entity, such as Department, Title, and Phone. The attribute that identifies an employee is EmployeeID.

      • Project: Contains profile information of a project entity, such as Name and Manager. The attribute that identifies a project is ProjectID.

      • ProjectAssignment: Maps employees to projects, by listing for each EmpID the ProjID of the project to which the employee is assigned.

In this example, you map the EmployeeID attribute in the Employee data source, to the ProjectID attribute in the Project data source. Then, you map the EmpID column in the ProjectAssignment data source, to the ProjID column in the ProjectAssignment data source.

  8. Choose Next and then choose Done.
