When you create a new output device or change an existing one, it is sometimes hard to choose the appropriate device type. This function assists you in finding the best choice.
You can also switch back to the traditional device type selection in a Unicode system.
The Device Type Selection function recommends you the most appropriate device type(s) for your output device after you have entered a couple of selection criteria, such as the name of the printer manufacturer and the language(s) to be printed in. As a result you will see a list of printer model – device type combinations out of which you can select the most suitable device type.
For more information, see Using Traditional Device Type Selection (Non-Unicode) or Using the Device Type Wizard (Unicode).
The relationship between printer model and device type needs to be updated in the system on a regular basis. For more information, see Updating the Device Type Selection Data.
