Installing CCMS Agents for SAP NetWeaver ComponentsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Caution

CCMS agents are no longer required for purely SAP NetWeaver 7.1 landscapes; their functions are performed by SAP NetWeaver Management Agents. More information about when you still require CCMS agents for SAP NetWeaver 7.1: CCMS Agents: Central Monitoring for Components up to SAP NetWeaver 7.0.

Purpose

The sections of this process describe how you can install and register the appropriate CCMS agents in the context of a standard installation of SAP NetWeaver components.

These descriptions therefore extend the process Installing and Registering CCMS Agents, which describes the installation and registration of CCMS agents in general terms, and which explains all individual settings.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be fulfilled in every case for the installation and registration of a CCMS agent:

  • You have a central monitoring system (CEN). If possible, reserve a separate SAP system for monitoring and system management. Do not use a production system for this purpose, to avoid unnecessary load on the system. If you are using a separate SAP system, you can always maintain this system at the most up-to-date status with regard to releases or Support Packages without any problems, meaning that you can always profit from the newest developments in the areas of monitoring and system management.
  • There is a CSMREG user in CEN. If this is not yet the case, create the user by proceeding as follows:
    1. In CEN, call transaction RZ21, and choose Technical Infrastructure →Configure Central System → Create CSMREG User.
    2. Enter and reenter any password for this user, and confirm your entries by choosing  (Create CSMREG).
      Note

For more detailed information about the authorizations that the user requires, see Creating the CSMREG User.

  • During the registration of the agent, you require connection data from the agent to CEN. We recommend that you generate this data in a CSMCONF file in CEN before the registration. To do this, proceed as follows:
    1. In CEN, call transaction RZ21, and choose Technical Infrastructure → Configure Central System → Create CSMCONF Start File for Agents.
    2. Save the file at a location that is centrally available, since you require the file for all agent registrations.
  • You have the required executables for the CCMS agents; the executable for the agent must have the same release as the monitored SAP NetWeaver component. To download these, proceed as follows:
    1. You require the file CCMAGENT.SAR. This archive contains all CCMS agents, including SAPCCMSR, SAPCCM4X, and SAPCM3X.
    2. Download the archive CCMAGENT.SAR. You can find it in the SAP Software Distribution Center of the SAP Service Marketplace (http://service.sap.com/swdcInformation published on SAP site). Log on using your SAP Service Marketplace ID.
    3. In the navigation bar, choose Support Packages and Patches → Browse Our Download Catalog → SAP NetWeaver and complementary products → SAP NetWeaverSAP NetWeaver 7.3 → Entry by Component → Application Server ABAP → SAP KERNEL 7.20 64-BIT/UNICODE → <operating system> → Database Independent.
    4. Decompress the archive CCMAGENT.SAR using the SAPCAR tool, which you can find under Additional Components in the SAP Software Distribution Center. Use the following command to decompress the files:

      sapcar -xvf CCMAGENT_<Version>.SAR

      Note

If you cannot find the archive for your operating system there, proceed as described in Downloading CCMS Agents.

Process Flow

To install and register a CCMS agent for one of the following components, follow the description under the appropriate link:

Result

After you have completed the registration, the CCMS agent transfers monitoring information for the relevant component to CEN. For information about displaying this monitoring information, see Displaying Agent Data in the Central Monitoring System.
