Use

You can search for objects, thereby defining and linking different selection conditions for the search help.

Procedure

Execute Standard Search

  1. In the main menu, choose Object → Search ().

    The search help is called.

  2. Select the object type from the dropdown list box for the Object Type field.
  3. To restrict the search to the objects in a particular software component version, select it from input help () for the Context field.

    If you select the arrow icon () beside the input help button you can select from the following additional filter options:

    • All software component versions
    • Latest version of all software components
    • This software component version

      If you select this option, you can mark a software component version in a navigation tree and select it with Copy.

  4. In the field on the left under Attributes, select the attribute from the dropdown list box (for example, Name). Which attributes you can select depends on the object type you selected.
  5. Enter the attribute value in the field on the right (for example, the actual name that you want to search by).

    Depending on the object type and selected additional attributes, you have the following input options for defining the attribute value:

    • Manual entry

      With manual entry, you can use the following wildcards to mask the entry fields:

      * (for any string) or ? (for any character)

    • Input help ()
  6. To search the objects restricted by usage profiles, select the Ignore usage profile restrictions for search checkbox.
    Note

    This checkbox is selected by default.

  7. To start the search, choose Search.

    If the search is successful, the search results are displayed as a table in the lower part of the screen. The key attributes of the object type searched for are initially displayed.

    If you want to display additional attributes for a certain object type, you can adjust the result table. To do this, choose Adjust Result Table (). In the Adjust Table Columns dialog box you can select individual attributes from the set of possible attributes and add them to your selection. To do this choose Add. You can also remove individual attributes from your selection (right part of the screen) if they are not key attributes of the object type.

    Note

    Note that these table settings are stored automatically.

    You can open the objects displayed in the result table by double-clicking.

Perform a Search in Advanced Mode

You can search by using extensive selection criteria.

  1. Repeat steps 1 to 3 above.
  2. Choose Advanced.

    You can specify several selection conditions in a table line-by-line.

    Note

    Choose Standard to switch back to Standard Search Mode.

    An individual selection condition has the following form:

    Attribute Operator Value 1 (Value 2)

Name = X

Name BETWEEN A*(and) Z*

Specify Attributes and Attribute Values

  1. Enter the attribute in the Attribute field (in the same way as for the standard search).
  2. Enter the attribute value in the Value 1 and Value 2 fields (in the same way as for the standard search).

    Note that you can only enter a value in the input field for Value 2 if an interval operator (BETWEEN or NOT BETWEEN) was selected for the search condition (see next step).

Specify Operators

  1. Enter the operator that links the search attributes (dropdown list box for the Operator field).

    Use the following operators:

    • LIKE

      With this operator you can for example search for all the objects whose name contains a certain string.

    • =
    • BETWEEN
    • NOT BETWEEN
    • NOT LIKE

Defining Multiline Selection Conditions

  1. You can add further selection conditions by inserting additional lines (choose Insert Line After Selection ()).

    Search conditions with the same attribute are automatically linked with a logical Or, and search conditions with different attributes with a logical And.

    The entire selection condition resulting from the table lines is displayed in a preview below the table.

  2. To search the objects restricted by usage profiles, select the Ignore usage profile restrictions for search checkbox.
    Note

    This checkbox is selected by default.

  3. To start the search, choose Search.
