Creating Links
You can create links in a form in the link list editor and in certain other editors. There are two types of links:
Internal
External
Internal links point to other Web pages that you created using the Web Page Composer (WPC), WPC areas, Web content items, or Knowledge Management (KM) resources (for example, Office or PDF files). Internal links are stable. If you move the target object (for example, a WPC page, or a KM resource) to a different location, the link remains the same.
External links can point to any URL.
Open the link list editor.
In a Shared Content folder of an area: In the Content Library, navigate to the folder in which you want to create the link list, and then choose in the function bar of the folder.
In a page: In the page editor, drag the Link List content template to a container.
Note
If you want to edit an already existing link list, choose
(Options) in the content template iView, and then choose Edit Content
Optional: To create new entries, choose Link List Item in the dropdown list, and then choose Add Element.
In the Link Title field, enter one or more words to be displayed as the link text.
Create a link URL:
To create internal links, choose Browse and select the target item.
The system inserts the stable links of the relevant target items as follows:
For publishable WPC objects, such as WPC page or area, the system inserts the Tag Based Navigation (TBN) link of the target item.
Note
The TBN link is a stable link generated during the creation of the object. The link becomes valid only after the object is published.
For Web content items and KM resources, the system inserts the short ID of the target item.
To create external links, enter the complete URL in the Link URL field.
For example, http://www.sap.com
Note the following:
The protocol must be specified at the beginning of an external link (for example, http://).
There may not be a slash (/) at the end of an external link.
By design, the links created in the HTML editor open the target object in a new window.
To create internal links to KM resources, select text or an image and then choose
(Insert link from KM).
To create external links, select text or an image and then choose
(Insert web-link for selection).
Note
No link consistency check takes place for the links created in the HTML editor.
The system checks the validity of internal and external links within the content elements of a page. For more information, see: Checking Link Consistency
