User Types
The following two user types cover the main scenarios for authentication and authorization.
Dialog users are required for interactive work with the PI tools.
A dialog user represents a human user (as opposed to a service user) who logs on through the various user interfaces of the different components of SAP NetWeaver PI, such as, the Enterprise Services Repository, Integration Directory, and System Landscape Directory.
Note
In user management of AS ABAP, this user type has the technical type A.
Recommendation
The user is recommended to log out of the PI tools explicitly when not in use (for example, the Enterprise Services Repository and the Integration Directory).
Service user enable secure communication between SAP NetWeaver PI and other components. These are the two main types of communication that service users are relevant for in SAP NetWeaver PI:
Internal Communication between the PI tools and the runtime components
Note
In user management of AS ABAP, this user type has the technical type B.
Default users are available initially after installation of SAP NetWeaver PI and provided with extensive permissions, for example, for administrators.
Recommendation
It is recommended that you copy the default user immediately after installation just in case the default user becomes locked accidentally. Also change the passwords of the default user as soon as possible to prevent unwanted users from logging in with maximum permission.
Note
In user management of AS ABAP, this user type has the technical type S.
