The following procedures describe how to:
Perform an Offline Backup of the Entire System Including the SAP System
It is best to back up the entire system after you have made major changes, such as installing program temporary fixes (PTFs) or new SAP instances or systems.
Do this frequently at regular intervals, for example, daily. It involves backups of system- and instance-specific integrated file system (IFS) objects and of SAP database libraries R3<SID>DATA, R3<SID>JRN, SAP<SID>DB and SAP<SID>JRN. You can perform the backup of the SAP components offline with the SAP system stopped or online so that the SAP system stays available while the backup is performed. Online backup uses the Save-While-Active function.
The procedures above provide you with a simplified overview about backing up the information relevant for an SAP installation. For more information about backup and recovery concepts, see the IBM backup and recovery documentation.
