Use

The objects you need to save include libraries and integrated file system (IFS) objects. The following graphic shows the SAP directories relevant for making backups.

Note

If you save file system /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe this does not save the objects of the executable library. It only saves the symbolic links.

For information about how to save the executable library, see What Do You Need to Save?

Note

Prior to SAP kernel release 7.10, the executable code of the kernel was shipped in the kernel library and copied from there to the directory /sapmt/<SID>/exe when the kernel was applied. The kernel could therefore be reconstructed from the library, and saving the IFS path /sapmt/<SID>/exe is not critical. Starting with SAP kernel release 7.10, the executables are shipped in the kernel directory /sapmt/<SID>/exe and its subdirectories. Some parts of the kernel are copied from there into the kernel library when required. Saving the IFS directory /sapmt/<SID>/exe has therefore become more important with SAP kernel release 7.10 and higher.
