Notification of Update Problems
The update system notifies you of problems in the following ways:
The graphical alert monitor reports all update problems automatically.
The update system sends an SAP express mail if an update is canceled prematurely. A popup notifies the user that an express mail has arrived.
An error message is issued to the user whose update was canceled.
A system-wide message is displayed if updating is automatically or manually deactivated.
The update manager records all canceled updates. They are assigned the status Error.
The SAP system notifies users of canceled updates, using express mails, as well as alerts. The mail is sent in the SAP system where the problem occurred.
In the standard system the warning is activated by mail. You can deactivate the warning in parameter rdisp/vbmail in the system profile.
The SAP system also displays a message about the update error on the user's screen. Exceptions to this include situations in which a remote update is made by means of an RFC, or if the user logged off before the update was processed.
If a serious error occurs in the database of the SAP system, the update is stopped automatically. Any database error message requiring attention from the database administrator notifies the update system, which then stops the update.
In such a case you and all other users also receive a warning message in the status line of your active session. The deactivation causes all active transactions in the system to pause.
Example
For example, your Oracle database has just issued the message “Table space overflow”. The SAP database interface recognizes the message as a serious error message and notifies the update system, which then stops the update. Active transactions are paused -- with an explanatory message -- until updating is reactivated.
If you stop updating in the event of a database problem makes it easier to restore the system once the problem has been resolved Updates are not canceled but are assigned the status init or auto (green background), which indicates that they have not yet been completed. Once you have fixed the problem and restarted updating, these updates are automatically processed.
Note
Updating is not stopped if a localized error in an update function module causes an update to be canceled prematurely.
