Archive Hierarchy and Store Assignment 

Use

You can use this function to view all archive paths that have been created and their archive stores, as well as detailed information – archive path properties – about each path.

You can also use this function to assign existing home or application collections to archive stores. However, if you have already done an archive store assignment, you do not need to repeat this task here. It is possible to override the Customizing settings you made in Archive Adminstration using this Assign Archive Storesfunction.

Even if you have entered an archive store in Synchronize Home Path it is recommended that you use the Assign Archive Stores function in XML DAS Administration to check that each home or application collection has been assigned correctly. If not, you can make the necessary changes manually here. However, changes are only possible if you have not archived any data yet under the collection for which you want to change the archive store assignment.

Prerequisites

Archive stores and home collections or application collections have been created previously.

You have called up the XML DAS Administration from within the SAP NetWeaver Administrator (NWA). (See Administration of the XML Data Archiving Service).

Viewing the archive paths:

The archive path hierarchy is a visual representation of all the archive paths that have been created in your system. You can drill down in the hierarchy and view detailed information about the different collections. When you select a collection the following information appears in the Archive Path Properties window on the right.

Archive Path: shows the path of the collection displayed in the hierarchy

Collection Type: shows whether the collection is a home collection or it is created by an application or by the system

Creation Time: shows the time the collection was created

Creation User: shows the user under which the collection was created

Archive Store: shows to which archive store the collection has been assigned. If this field is empty, the collection has not been assigned to any archive store yet, or the assignment exists on a deeper sub collection.

Assigning Collections:

With this function you assign or unassign collections to archive stores. There are several important aspects to consider when assigning collections to archive stores. It is not possible to begin archiving until you have assigned a collection to an archive store. This means that as a minimum for archiving you must assign a home collection to one archive store. It is also possible to assign application collections located below a home collection in the archive hierarchy to archive stores. This is necessary, if your application system supports archive routing and you want to route archived data to separate collections in the archive hierarchy. (If an application supports Archive Routing, then the routing collections are usually created in the archive hierarchy during the synchronization of home paths.) If you assign an application collection to an archive store, then it is no longer possible to assign a home collection or any parent collection of that application collection to an archive store. Furthermore, all sub collections of this application collection then automatically belong to the same archive store. Since it is no longer possible to assign this home collection to an archive store, you MUST assign all other application collections on the same level that are under this home collection to archive stores, if you want to use them for archiving.

The collections in the hierarchy are marked to indicate whether they can be assigned to an archive store or not. Choose Show Legend for a description of these indicators:

●       Collection

●       Assignable Collection

●       Unassignable Collection

You must always keep the above considerations in mind when assigning a collection to an archive store, even if a collection is marked as assignable. You may run the risk of “locking” some collections for routing, for example, by assigning the wrong collections.

To assign/unassign a collection, proceed as follows:

       1.      Choose an appropriate collection in the archive path hierarchy.

The window Archive Store Assignment appears on the right side of the screen.

       2.      To assign a collection to an archive store, use the drop down list of the field help to choose an appropriate archive store and then choose Assign.

To remove the assignment of an archive store from the collection, choose Unassign.

You can update the archive hierarchy using the Refresh function. Refreshing the hierarchy updates the hierarchy with the latest information from the XML DAS.

Result

You have checked which archive stores have been assigned to existing home or application collections and have reassigned archive stores, if necessary.
