The workflow system creates one workflow work item for each workflow started. The workflow system also creates one workflow work item for subworkflows started from a workflow.

The workflow work item serves as a central incoming point for an executed workflow or a workflow that is being executed.

Features

Workflow work items are not displayed in the Business Workplace but can be found using the work item selection.

A workflow work item can also be identified with the type code F in the technical information on the workflow.

You can access the corresponding workflow log and the workflow container directly from a workflow work item. You access these for:

  • Error diagnosis and error correction if no work items are displayed

  • Information on steps of the workflow (including their actual agents, notes, and ad hoc objects) already processed

  • Modifying an ongoing workflow by changing the workflow container

  • Reporting on completed processes.

For more information on possible statuses and status transitions, see Status of a Workflow Work Item and Status Transitions of a Workflow Work Item.
