Classification causes documents to be assigned to one or more categories of an existing taxonomy. For example, a document may be classified into’Internation Politics’ as well as into ‘Stock Exchange’. The classification of new documents can be carried out manually by the user or automatically by the system.

Query-Based and Example-Based Classification

There are two classification procedures:

·        Query-based classification

·        Example-based classification

Note

These two classification procedures correspond to query-based and example-based taxonomies. You can only carry out query- or example-based classification (classifying documents) after you have created a query- or example-based taxonomy.
