If SAP Library is installed for the SAP system, the Help Center contains a link to the help that is assigned to the application or transaction.

Help Link in the Help Center

The Help Center uses the help assignment provided by SAP to create links as follows:

Application Type

Explanation of Help Link in Help Center

Transaction dynpro

The link text corresponds to the transaction name. The context-sensitive SAP assignment (R/3 link) between the help object and the transaction permits exactly one help object for each transaction.

Web Dynpro ABAP

The link text corresponds to the title of the help object or the text provided by SAP for the respective help assignment in the Online Text Repository (OTR) of the SAP system. The assignment between the help object and the application is defined in the attributes of the application. Several help objects can be assigned to an application.

Availability of Help Link

The link to the application help is shown in the Help Center as standard. In special cases, such as where the majority of users only use the company-specific information provided in the Help Center, you can hide the help link in the current client. If certain users do need to use the application help, a user parameter can be set to ensure these users can still see the help link.

Search for Help

If SAP Library is installed for the system, you can search it from the Help Center. The Help Center search function is based on Enterprise Search, therefore the help objects have to be indexed.

Note Note

In order for SAP Library to be available to the Help Center search function, it must be installed on a file server. It cannot be accessed using a Web server. If you specify the network folder (containing SAP Library) and a corresponding logical path, this ensures that both users and the SAP system have access to SAP Library.

End of the note.

Procedure

  1. In the SAP system, open the Project Implementation Guide for the Help Center.

  2. Choose   SAP NetWeaver   Knowledge Management   Help Center  .

  3. Choose Defining the Application Help in the Help Center (Defining the Application Help in the Help Center).

Hiding the Link to Application Help in the Help Center

Only change the default setting if you are absolutely sure you do not need access to SAP Library in your client. Be aware that hiding the help link also prevents you from using the search for help.

To hide the help link in the Help Center, deselect the Application Help Shown in Help Center indicator.

Note Note

Each user has the option to keep the help link. You do this under   System   User Profile   Own Data   Parameters  . If the user parameter HC_APPHELP has the parameter value X, the help link is not hidden for this user.

If you are an administrator, you can set the parameter for other users. As well as editing user data individually in transaction SU01, we also recommend mass processing in transaction SU10. You can set the user parameter for all power users, for example (role SAP_BC_WDHC_POWERUSER).

End of the note.
Defining the Search Path for SAP Library and SAP Glossary
  1. Under Path to Network Folder, enter the physical path to the network folder in which SAP Library is installed and that all users have access to.

  2. Under Logical Path, enter the logical path created especially to access the help.

Resetting the Indexing Preparation of SAP Library in the Event of Updates

Before SAP Library is indexed for the first time, the system performs a preparatory analysis of the data. This indexing preparation is a prerequisite and forms the basis of the indexing.

If you want to perform indexing for a new version of SAP Library, you must first reset the indexing preparation of the old version. The reset procedure, which can take a few minutes, deletes the old analysis results so that the indexing procedure can perform the indexing preparation for the new data.
