Handling Locations Locate this document in the navigation structure

To be able to identify locations of different data origins the data model differentiates between the following InfoObjects:

  • Source Location (/DDF/LOCREF): This InfoObject contains the external location numbers and location hierarchy nodes compounded with the context (to ensure that internal locations are unique), the location node qualifier (used to distinguish between nodes and leaves of a hierarchy), and the location type (used to distinguish between stores and delivery locations).

  • Internal Source Location (/DDF/LOCATION): This InfoObject is based on internal number range objects that are assigned to a context to ensure that internal location numbers are unique.

It acts as the central InfoObject and collects, for example, the following information for reporting:

    • Country, region, city, and so on.

    • Location type and delivery location (to differentiate between stores and distribution centers and to provide the information about a delivery location for a store)

    • Location

    • Harmonized location

    • Data origin, data provider, and context

    • Customer number as company-internal number from SAP ECC.

  • InfoObject Location (/DDF/GLID) groups locations with harmonized attributes.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

Data Model for Locations

Process

  1. You define number ranges for internal source locations in Customizing.

  2. You assign a number range to a context as an attribute of the data delivery agreement in Customizing

  3. During data upload, the system generates a new unique internal number for each new combination of location and context. It stores the assignment of source location and internal source location in the InfoObject Source Location.

    Note Note

The same process can be used for company-internal data. You can extract customer numbers from SAP ECC (InfoObject Customer Number (0CUSTOMER)) to InfoObject Source Location and generate an internal location number.

    End of the note.
  4. If required, you can forward your locations to data harmonization. During data harmonization, the objects are grouped and combined in a harmonized object. The harmonized location and the corresponding harmonized attributes are extracted to the InfoObject Location (DDF/GLID).
