Internal Data
You can upload company-internal data from systems, such as an ERP system and SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (SAP NetWeaver BW) to SAP Demand Signal Management.
External Data
You can upload external data both manually and automatically depending on your settings in Customizing for Cross-Application Components under 
Demand Data Foundation

External data may come in files or may be sent directly to the PSA tables. If the data is provided using files, you define the relevant file sets and data sets in Customizing; for the direct upload to PSA tables, you define only data sets.
Prerequisites
You have identified the relevant data for upload.
For example, you collect POS data from retailer systems and market research data from market research companies.
The data is either already in the defined format for SAP Demand Signal Management or it has been transformed to fit the structure of the inbound interface.
For example, you use an extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) tool, such as SAP Data Services that can transfer the data directly into the system.
The data can be sent by the data provider directly to the PSA or to the inbound folder in the required format (self-descriptive exchange format for retail panel data or comma-separated files for POS data).
