Background documentation Retail Terminology Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Many business process in Retail use SAP BW to evaluate data that comes from different components, for example, from SAP APO in addition to SAP R/3.

While SAP R/3 uses terms that are linked to its industry sectors (material and plant in production, article and site in SAP Retail), in other components you will find the more universally-employed terms product and location.

When evaluating data from different sources, it makes sense to use the same terminology. It is therefore possible to convert the screen in your SAP BW System to display the more universal terms product and location in several languages. This conversion is performed with short text replacement.

The Retail Content documentation has been written with the assumption that you have replaced the short texts in your BW system. Please note that SAP standard terminology is used in all documentation other than the Retail Content.

The following terms differ depending on where you are in the SAP documentation:

SAP Retail

SAP BW

Article

Product

Site

Location

In the SAP Service Marketplace you can find out the languages and components for which short text replacement is available Link to external website http://service.sap.com/retail) under Expert Knowledge Corner, Across ComponentsSetting up SAP Retail: Link to external website Retail Short Text Replacement.

Note

Terminology is only replaced in the user interface.

Caution

As of BI_CONT 3.5.1 the industry sector Retail Business Intelligence (ISRBI) uses short term replacement. If you are changing from an earlier release you should first deactivate the previously active short text conversion (ISR) and activate the new one (ISRBI).
