Creating VirtualProviders Based on the Data
Transfer Process
...
1. In the Data Warehousing Workbench under Modeling, choose the InfoProvider tree.
2. In the context menu, choose Create InfoCube.
3. As type select VirtualProvider based on data transfer process for direct access.
For reasons of compatibility, a VirtualProvider based on a data transfer process with direct access can also be linked with an SAP source system using an InfoSource 3.x. Since the transfer rules that are used can also be used for the normal load process to other InfoProviders, you must also select the source systems that are to be used for the direct access when using a VirtualProvider that is linked with an InfoSource 3.x.
The indicator Unique Source System Assignment controls whether or not this source system assignment needs to be unique. If the indicator is set, you can mark at most one source system in the assignment dialog. If the indicator is not set, more than one source system may be marked. In this case the VirtualProvider acts like a MultiProvider.
If the indicator is not set, the characteristic 0LOGSYS is automatically added to the VirtualProvider upon creation. In the query this characteristic allows dynamic selection of the source system: In a navigation step, data is only requested from the assigned source systems whose logical system name satisfies the election condition for characteristic 0LOGSYS.
4. Define the VirtualProvider by copying the necessary InfoObjects. Activate the VirtualProvider.
5. In the context menu on the VirtualProvider select Create Transformation. Define the transfer rules and activate them.
6. In the context menu on the VirtualProvider select Create Data Transfer Process. The selected default value for the DTP type is DTP for Direct Access. Select the source for the VirtualProvider. Activate the data transfer process.
7.
Activate the direct
access. From the context menu on the VirtualProvider select Active Direct
Access. In the dialog box
that follows, choose one or several data transfer processes and select
Save Assignments.
The VirtualProvider can be used in reporting in cases where it does not differ from other InfoProviders.
