Proration of Meter Readings
Proration is the division of a billing period due to data changes.
Example:
A rate is changed during a billing period. Consumption in the first half of the billing period is calculated using the old rate whereas consumption in the second half is calculated with the new. In order to do this, the meter reading at the time of the rate change must be determined.

The proration meter reading is determined in the following way:
Determination of meter reading difference between C and P 2 :
1,905 kWh -1,000 kWh = 905 kWh
Determination of consumption per weighting unit:
905 kWh: (90 + 91) = 5 kWh
Extrapolation of consumption for period from P 2 to the time of data change (April 01, 1997):
5 kWh90 = 450 kWh
Determination of proration meter reading at the time of the rate change by adding the consumption to the meter reading at P 2 :
1,000 kWh + 450 kWh = 1,450 kWh
Proration meter reading on April 01, 1997 is 1,450 kWh.
