Redefinition of Attributes and Deactivation of Rules

Attributes that originate from an assigned product module, an assigned reference product, an assigned product component or an IPC knowledge database cannot be changed in the first instance. If you want to change attributes, you must first redefine them.

This means that in the case of package components, it is for example possible to sell products with two prices: One price for a product that is sold individually and a different price for the product if it is sold as part of a utilities package.

Note Note

You can change attributes that were defined directly in a utilities product, package or product determination object (PDO) from the outset. Note here that a redefined attribute is largely decoupled from its original version. This means that changes to the version of the product module used or the package component, or changes to the IPC knowledge database no longer affect the inherited attribute.

End of the note.

Rules assigned to an attribute for the value check, value determination and value help are inherited with this attribute. These rules cannot be changed in the product used. Once the attribute has been redefined, these rules can be deactivated and replaced by different rules.

You can undo the redefinition of an attribute. This assigns the current status as defined in the product module/reference product, package component or IPC knowledge database to the attribute.

The information column in the attribute hierarchy tree shows whether an inherited attribute has been redefined. You can use the buttons in the action column of the attribute tree to redefine or reset inherited attributes.

Note Note

You cannot delete an attribute, which is inherited by an assigned product module/reference product, assigned product component or IPC knowledge database, even after a redefinition.

End of the note.

The following procedure is recommended for redefining attributes:

  1. Navigate to the Product Modeling for Utilities overview page for the product required and switch to the editing mode.

  2. Select the inherited attribute that you want to define in the hierarchy tree for the attribute hierarchy.

  3. Choose Redefine in the action column of the attribute hierarchy tree.

You can now make entries in some of the fields in the attribute details view.

  4. Make your changes.

    Note Note

Alternatively, you can choose Undo Redefinition in the action column of the attribute hierarchy tree to return to the original status of the attribute.

    End of the note.
  5. Save your changes.
