 Utilities Product and Reference Product

Sales Product and Reference Product

You can provide and sell sales products to customers. The reference product has the same structure as the sales product, but cannot be sold. It is used as the basis for a series of similar sales products. These products only have minor differences. You can also use this technology to make changes centrally.

The following graphic shows the structure of utilities products and reference products:

Product Header

  • Product details and validity

The validity period and validity rules for the time of sale are stored here. For more information, see the section Product Details and Validity.

    Note Note

The product roles Reference Product and Product Module do not have their own validity and only exist locally in the product used.

    End of the note.
  • Product version

The version number, master data template and version status are stored here. For more information, see the section Using Version Management.

You can maintain a master data template for the reference product. If this is not maintained, you must define this in the sales products that are based on the reference product.

Product Attributes and Product Attribute Groups

  • Product attribute groups

The attribute group is stored here. For more information, see the section Attribute Group.

  • Product attributes

Configuration attributes are stored here. For more information, see the section Attributes.

Modeling Components

  • Reference product

You have the option of storing one reference product here. Configuration attributes, the rules associated with these configuration attributes and the master data template are inherited to the corresponding product here.

You can only link a reference product to a sales product when creating a new product, and once you have done so, this cannot be reversed. For more information, see the section Creating New Utilities Products.

    Note Note

Inherited product characteristics can be modified by redefining them individually in the product where they are used. For more information, see the section Redefining Attributes

    End of the note.
  • Product Module

Product modules are stored here. For more information, see the section Product Module.

For more information about assigning products, see the section Using Product Modules.

    Note Note

Inherited product characteristics can be modified by redefining them individually in the product where they are used. For more information, see the sections Redefining Attributes and Deactivating Rules.
