Object documentationExclusivity Type

The exclusivity type describes whether rights can be used by several users simultaneously and any conditions that apply to this usage.

You can specify the exclusivity type in the Intellectual Property (IP) and in license sales and license acquisition contracts.

Exclusivity in the IP

Select the exclusivity type in the Intellectual Property to define the exclusivity type with which an Intellectual Property is available in the rights owned by your company.

If you do not make an entry in the IP for the exclusivity type, the system assumes that you own the right exclusively during the rights availability analysis.

Exclusivity in license acquisition and license sales contracts

Select the exclusivity type in license acquisition and license sales contracts to define the exclusivity type with which a right is acquired or sold.

If you do not make an entry in the license acquisition contract for the exclusivity type, the system assumes that you are acquiring the right exclusively during the rights availability analysis.

If you do not make an entry in the license sales contract for the exclusivity type, the system assumes that you are selling the right non-exclusively during the rights availability analysis.

Structure

Information on the exclusivity type is recorded during IP Product Maintenance with the entries for the rights owned. You enter this information in the rights scope in the IP or the license acquisition or license sales contract.

The SAP Customizing settings provided contain the following values for the exclusivity type:

Exclusive

An exclusive right means that the right cannot used by other involved parties at the same time. The rights can only be exploited by the rights owner.

Non-exclusive

A right can be exploited by several involved parties simultaneously if it is assigned non-exclusively.
