Function documentationExpand Relationships Within Contract Items

You can maintain a contract item, which contains a structured Intellectual Property (IP), in a license contract (acquisition or sales). If other products have been assigned to this Intellectual Property using relationship types such as part or package part, the structured IP can be expanded during contract processing.

Note Note

You can expand relationships of the part and package part types in license sales contracts.

You can only expand the part relationship in license acquisition contracts.

End of the note.

Features

You want to sell packages with package parts or series with episodes in license sales contracts. During contract maintenance for these products, you decide to maintain data on rights and license fees at package or series level in the most simple example, since this data is identical for the package parts or episodes. You do not perform any expansion here.

You must however expand the product relationships in the contract if:

  • You want to maintain rights at package or series level and license fees at package part or parts level.

  • You want to maintain license fees at package or series level and rights at package part or parts level.

  • You do not want to maintain rights or license fees at package or series level, but want to maintain both at package part or parts level.

Example

The following diagram shows a complex example, in which expansion into package parts and parts is performed in the license sales contract:

During contract processing, proceed as follows:

  1. Maintain the Cops and Robbers - Package Intellectual Property in the contract. Choose Expand IP to expand the package parts, in this case Cops and Robbers - Film and Cops and Robbers - Series.

  2. The Cops and Robbers - Film package part expanded in the first step does not contain any additional parts. To expand the series, proceed as follows:

    1. Season 1 is assigned to the series. Choose Expand IP to expand this relationship level.

    2. The episode 1 and episode 2 parts are assigned below season 1. This relationship is also expanded by choosing Expand IP.

      Note Note

Expansion takes place for a single stage in each case.

      End of the note.
