Advanced Item category determination is a service that determines the item category for CRM Billing using user-defined attributes of CRM business transactions. You can use this service if the specified attributes of simple item category determination are not sufficient for determination. Advanced item category determination may be necessary, for example, if you wish to determine item categories from the sales or service organization of CRM business transactions.
Advanced item category determination is based on the data determination service that uses condition techniques. You can find all relevant settings for data determination in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management, under
.To use advanced item category determination, you must have made the following settings in CRM Billing:
Metadata
You assign advanced item category determination to the billing due list container using metadata (there is further information on this under metadata entity
Application customizing
You assign the item category of CRM Billing to relevant attributes of the source application using application customizing. All standard fields (for example, sales or service organization), as well as all organizational-specific fields transferred to the application-dependent field catalogue of CRM Billing, are available as attributes.

.CRM Billing uses item categories that are not necessarily known in the CRM Business Transaction. That is why it is possible for advanced item category determination to determine item categories in CRM Billing from user-defined attributes of source applications. Using the data determination service, you can create item category determination step-by-step and thus use all condition technique functionalities.
Provided you have made all relevant settings in Customizing, the system automatically determines item categories during the transfer of billing relevant data to the billing due list in CRM Billing.
