Function documentationRelease Dates Relevance

This function enables you to activate or deactivate the release dates for intellectual properties (IPs). This determines whether the system considers release dates when determining the available rights.

Integration

The rights availability analysis application performs a check to determine whether the availability profile for the IP contains the Release Dates set type. If the release dates are deactivated for the IP, the system does not display the Not Released assignment block on the Availability Details page. In this instance, the system uses the information in the Rights Owned to perform the availability calculation.

The collision check for the license sales contract includes a check for the release dates relevance in the IP. If the release dates are deactivated in the IP, the collision check uses the information in Rights Owned to perform the check and does not include any messages in the log regarding release dates.

For more information about the checks for release dates relevance, see Checks for Release Dates Relevance.

Prerequisites

You have made the settings in Customizing for the appropriate method of setting the release dates relevance. These are described under Activities. For more information, see the following Customizing activities for Customer Relationship Management:

Features

Some media companies, such as entertainment companies, have different release dates for a movie IP in the cinema, pay TV, and free TV markets. In this case, release dates are relevant for the IP. If you require release dates for your IP, you can assign an availability profile that includes the Release Dates set type in the calculation rule. In this way, you can enter the release dates for each market, and the collision check and the rights availability analysis can use this information.

Companies that release the rights acquired or produced directly for sale, such as broadcasting or publishing companies, do not require release dates. You can deactivate the release dates by assigning the appropriate availability profile to the generation formula or product category for the IP. For more information, see Availability Profile.

Activities

Setting the Release Dates Relevance

You can set the release dates relevance for IPs in the following ways:

  • You can assign an availability profile to a product category in Customizing activity Assign Availability Profile to Product Category (see path above).

This controls whether the system considers the release dates when it calculates the rights availability analysis and performs the collision check for the license sales contract. A product category considers release dates if you assign the Release Dates set type (IPM_RELDAT) to it. This method of activating or deactivating the release dates is suitable if most IPs created using a certain category require either release date activation or deactivation.

  • You can assign an availability profile to a generation formula in Customizing activity Define Formulas for Generating the Rights Owned (see path above). You then assign the generation formula to your IP.

The generation formula you assign to a specific IP allows you to control whether:

    • The system considers release dates when it performs the rights availability analysis or collision check for the IP

    • The Release Dates assignment block displays on the IP Overview page

This assignment allows you the flexibility to choose whether the release dates are activated or deactivated for each individual IP.

Deactivating Release Dates for Existing IPs

The release dates are activated for all IPs created before this function became available. If you have existing IPs for which you want to deactivate the release dates, the following options are available:

  • You can assign the availability profile that does not consider release dates to the product category for the IPs. The system deactivates the release dates for all IPs with this product category when you save the assignment.

  • You can assign the availability profile that does not consider release dates to a generation formula, and then assign the generation formula to an IP. The system deactivates the release dates and deletes the data contained in the release dates for the IP.
