Process documentationField Mapping for Utilities Data Import Tool

This process helps you create field mapping required to import data using the Utilities Data Import Tool. This process including mapping of standard and custom fields to the fields in the import file. This mapping is then saved as a mapping file used to import data. Once a mapping is saved, it can reused to import data.

Prerequisites

You have maintained your settings for Utilities Data Import Tool. For more information, see IMG for Customer Relationship Management and choose Start of the navigation path Industry-Specific Solutions Next navigation step Utility Industries Next navigation step Technical Objects Next navigation step Utilities Data Import Tool End of the navigation path

Process

From the Mapping Fields screen, you can maintain the following mapping related information:

  • Import Column

The columns maintained in the input file are available in the Import Column dropdown lists. You manually map fields in Attributes to those in the Import Column. You have to maintain mapping for all mandatory attributes

  • Convert to Key

Select Convert to Key to maintain data in the SAP CRM system in a format different from the one maintained in the input file. For example, you may want to maintain country code in the system instead of name of the country, which is the format maintained in the input file. In such a case, if you select Convert to Key option, then if the input file has Germany as the country, it is maintained as DE in the SAP CRM system. This option is only available for fields that have domain values.

  • Evaluation

The mapping rule is displayed here. Mapping rule is an additional way of providing information (which may or may not be present in the input file) for creation of data. Mapping rule can be Constant, Value, or BAdI.

  • Mapping Rule

You maintain the mapping rule here. The mapping rule maintained here is displayed in the Evaluation column. You can select any one of the following mapping rules:

    • Constant

If you choose Constant as the Mapping Rule, you enter a Constant Value. You can then choose to replace a particular field in all the mapped records with the entered value OR use the entered value only in the absence of mapped records. For example, if Technical Object is selected as the Application and you want to use Gas as the constant value for Division, you enter Gas in the constant value field, and then choose to replace the all information maintained in the Division field of the input file with Gas OR use Gas only where Division is not maintained.

    • Value

If you choose Value as the Mapping Rule, you select a Possible Value for a mapped field. Select Insert to insert a new value.

For example, if Technical Object is selected as the Application, for the field Division, if the input file has ELEC as the entry, and if this has to be interpreted as Electricity in the system, you select Insert and maintain the information. Similarly, if you want to maintain WAT as Water, you insert another row and maintain the corresponding information as shown in the table.

      Possible Values

      Possible Values Description

      Mapped values

      01

      Electricity

      ELEC

      02

      Water

      WAT

    • BAdI

If you choose BAdI as the Mapping Rule, you can see the BAdI Name and BAdI Method. All mapped records take the value generated by implementing the BAdI.

Once a mapping rule is saved, the Field Mappings screen appears. Here, you can edit or delete the mapping rule.
